Andreas Kofler Career

Career

Andreas Kofler grew up in Tyrol, Austrian Alps. He and Gregor Schlierenzauer, a member of the ski jumping team SV Innsbruck-Bergisel, competed together.

On February 4, 2006, Kofler won his first individual match in the World Cup. He came in second place in the team competition two days later. Kofler claimed the silver medal in the individual competition at Turin, Italy, only 0.1 points behind Thomas Morgenstern, his teammate on the team, who would later win the Olympic gold medal in the team competition. Kofler earned the gold medal in the team competition and finished sixth in the individual competition at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Sapporo, Japan. He took second place in the Nordic Tournament at the end of the season, only beating Adam Maysz.

Kofler crashed twice during competitions in Engelberg and Oberstdorf, getting off to a good start in the 2007/08 season, finishing in second place behind Morgenstern twice. Despite not being injured, Kofler struggled to recover from his poor form for this and the next season.

In the 2009-2010 season, Kofler came in third place in Engelberg, snaping his poor run. After winning the tournament in Oberstdorf, Kofler won the coveted Four Hills Tournament for the first time during the same season, ahead of Janne Ahonen and Wolfgang Loitzl. In the first event (on the normal hill) of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Kofler did not meet hopes, placing in 19th place. Despite this, he came in fourth place on the large hill, just one point behind the podium, and he and his colleagues Wolfgang Loitzl, Thomas Morgenstern, and Gregor Schlierenzauer won the team competition, his second Olympic gold medal since 2006.

Kofler won three individual titles in Kuusamo, Finland, including the first event of the season.

Despite a fitness deficit due to back injuries relating to his spinal discs, Kofler started the 2011/12 season by winning the first two events, which took place in Lillehammer, Norway.
