Anders Friden Career

Career

Fridén was the original vocalist for Dark Tranquillity. He appeared on their debut album, Skydancer, but the band was forced to disband soon after. He joined the In Flames two years ago. Mikael Stanne had left In Flames (being only a session player) and changed from rhythm guitar to lead vocals in Dark Tranquillity, so the two effectively traded places. Fridén was also the lead vocalist for another band, Ceremonial Oath, founded by In Flames founder Jesper Strömblad.

On the 1996 album The Jester Race, Fridén debuted with In Flames. The lyrics were written by Niklas Sundin (of Dark Tranquillity) on the album Whoracle. Fridén wrote the songs himself on his 1999 album Colony, but Sundin also helped by translating his lyrics from Swedish to English.

As a side project, he also plays for the band Passenger.

Fridén has also performed guest vocals on the album The Phantom Novels by the metal band Grievance. He is the lead vocalist on the tracks Atrocity Upon Deceptions, A Devil's Rhyme, and The Mask of Sin.

Fridén appeared on Caliban's 2007 album "The Awakening" as a guest vocalist on the Japanese bonus track "See the Falling Sky." Out of the Dark, a vocalist for the track "Dysfunctional Hours" on the 20th anniversary Nuclear Blast Allstars compilation album.

Following the introduction of In Flames 2002's Reroute to Remain, his appearance has radically changed. His once clean-shaven appearance was replaced with a beard, and his long hair was dyed into dreadlocks. His vocal style has also evolved, especially on the new three albums. His low-tone, ferocious death growl has developed into a more scream that is now bolstered by clean vocals and layers of backing vocals.

Fridén is not only a singer, but he's also a product, with his most recent efforts being The Undying Shadow by Caliban in 2006 and Absolute Design by the band Engel in 2007.

He co-wrote and performed scream vocals on the album "Self vs. Self," which appears on his third album with British/Australian drum and bass band Pendulum, as well as his bandmates Björn Gelotte and Peter Iwers.

Fridén redesigned his appearance in the summer of 2010, removing his dreadlocks, which he hadn't grown after the introduction of Reroute to Remain.

In 2021, Fridén initiated If Anything, Suspicious, an ambient/electronic system. Lullabies for the Damned, the project's debut album, was released in December 2021 in collaboration with OFFAIR.
