Amir Obe Career

Life and career

Amir Obè was born in Detroit and later moved to New York City. His mother is Polish and a music teacher, while his father is Sudanese. Obè's father listened to Michael Jackson growing up and was heavily influenced by Pharrell Williams and Kanye Obè, who played football on the street and rode his bicycle. He went back and forth from New York City to visit his sister in high school. Obè played basketball in high school. He was a one-and-a-kind, point guard, and shooting guard. He also played AAU, but he was the best offensive player in high school in junior and senior years.

When Obè was 16 or 17, he bought a computer mic and created "Step Your Swag Up," his first song. His parents were unaware that he made music because he did it privately, but basketball was his highest priority at the time. Obè embarked on a music career after high school and moved back to Brooklyn. When Obè went by the name of Phreshy Duzit on Myspace, he was first recognized as an artist. He had 100,000 followers and started releasing new freestyles every week, and receiving emails from record labels. He later signed to Atlantic Records. On Twitter, Obè was 18, and he started a relationship with PartyNextDoor, who at the time went by "Jahron B." He was always songwriting and directing, so he'd still deliver beats.

On April 15, 2011, Obè's debut EP, Brave New World, was released on Atlantic Records. The EP was entirely produced by NYLZ. Obè changed his look shortly after and dubbed the record deal "bullshit." He debuted The New Religion, his debut mixtape on his own independent record label Neighborhood PHCK$ and After Platinum Records on August 27, 2012. Cory Gunz, Jon Connor, and Los Angeles have appeared in it, as well as NYLZ, Daniel Worthy, Rich Flyer, and Obè himself. By releasing the mixtape, he revealed that he had been signed to After Platinum.

When Obè first introduced the mixtape, Detrooklyn, in 2014, he changed his name to Amir Obè. After Platinum Records, the mixtape featured music from NYLZ, Vinylz,, and Daniel Worthy. "I started feeling like both these places were the same place," Obè says, "it was an exciting project to teach my upbringing and my philosophy as an early teen, despite where I am now." Oliver El-Khatib (Drake's boss and co-founder of OVO Sound) told Obè that Drake is a fan of Detrooklyn in the fall of 2014. Obè sent him music and received positive feedback as a result.

Obè co-produced "Star67" for Drake in February 2015, which appeared on If You're Reading This Is Too Late. Obè had been linked to OVO Sound for a few years, but he denied it. On tour, Obè opened PartyNextDoor, and the two performed on several tracks together. Obè's second EP was released on December 11, 2015. The album features guest appearances from PartyNextDoor and Eli Sostre, as well as creation from NYLZ, The Mekanics, Daniel Worthy, Wondagurl, OZ, and others. Obè's third EP, Won't Find Love in the Hills, was released on March 11, 2016 on Neighborhood PHCK$ and Empire Distribution. It comes from NYLZ, OZ, Eli Sostre, The Mekanics, STWO, and Ashton Mills. Amir Obe appeared on Toronto R&B/Electro singer GOV's single Wrong One/Reflectin, produced by frequent collaborator NYLZ and was the lead single from GOV's Nights EP, which premiered via Complex Magazine in late March 2016.

Amir Obe announced his move to Def Jam Records on December 1, 2016. Amir Obe appeared on "Not So Famous" on the Davinci-produced single, "Yeah, Yes" in early 2017.

On the soundtrack for Madden NFL 18, Obé's "Wish You Well" is featured.
