Laurent Amir Khlifa Haddad (Hebrew: ) or simply Amir Khedider Haddad, born 20 June 1984) is a French-Israeli singer and songwriter. (Hebrew: ) He appeared in 2006 in the Israeli music competition Kokhav Nolad, and in 2011 he was named finalist in Team Jenifer's French competition The Voice: la plus belle voix. With the song "J'ai cherché," he represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, which took sixth place.

Early life

Haddad was born in Paris to Maghrebi Jewish parents from Tunisia and Morocco. He grew up in Sarcelles (Vall-d'Oise) and immigrated to Israel as an Aliyah at the age of eight; the family settled in Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv. He performed in the synagogue and in several social gatherings as a young boy.

Amir was born with a hearing loss of 50% and only heards from his left ear.

Personal life

Amir married Lital, his longtime companion in Israel, on July 7, 2014. On February 8, 2019, their first child, a boy named Mikhail, was born.

Career

He rose to prominence in 2006 with his appearance in Kokhav Nolad (in Hebrew), the Israeli equivalent of the Pop Idol, from May to September 2006. During the audition, he was the first candidate to perform predominantly French language songs. He appeared on four stages before being disqualified.

Jacko Eisenberg won the series. He completed his obligatory military service in the Israeli Defence Forces and continued his education in dentistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, graduating in 2012. His album "Kache limtso militarim," Patrick Bruel's French hit "J'te l'dis quand même," appeared in a music video. Bruel adored Amir's performance so much that he invited him to perform it with him in a grand concert in Raanana Park on May 23, 2008 in front of 8000 people. He performed it again in 2013 at the gala in honor of Anaelle Ledoroth's birthday in Paris on May 27.

Amir Haddad's debut studio album Vayehi co-authored by himself and Omri Dagan during the years when Amir Haddad was a university student in 2011. "Kache limtso milim" was included on the album, as well as his already famous version of "Kache limtso milim." He also revived a 1990s hit "Désenchantée" by French artist Mylène Farmer. Haddad's version was created by Israeli producer Offer Nissim. Meanwhile, he discovered his love for music.

Haddad was signed to a French brand at the conclusion of the tournament, spawning a following in France, Switzerland, the United States, and Brazil in comparison to Israel. He worked with a number of artists, including Shlomi Shabat, Haim Moshe, Dudu Aharon, Gad Elbaz, and Eyal Golan.

He appeared on TF1's season 3 of the French television series The Voice: la belle voix broadcast from 11 January 2014 to ten May 2014. Haddad performed "Candle in the Wind" from Elton John, with all four coaches, Garou, Mika, Jenifer, and Florent Pagny all turning their chairs. Haddad wanted to be a part of Team Jenifer. He made it to the Final, where he finished third.

With other The Voice finalists, Amir toured France. He appeared on the compilation album Forever Gentleman 2 in the charity group Leurs voix pour l'espoir's Olympia, Paris, as well as other appearances in the magazine Public's #OBJETPUBLIC calendar. In addition, he released a music video for "Candle in the Wind," a song he had performed during the blind auditions in The Voice. He's working on his first album in French. In 2015, he released the hit single "Oasis" under the mononym Amir chart on SNEP, the French Singles Chart.

He was chosen by French public radio France 2 to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden. After receiving 280 submissions, Amir's song was selected internally by France 2 by a commission led by France 2 entertainment director Nathalie André and the newly appointed French Head of Delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest Edoardo Grassi. Amir Khaled, Nazim Khaled, and Johan Errami co-wrote the song "J'ai cherché" and contains lyrics in a bilingual mix of French and English.

The entry was supposed to be announced on March 12, 2016, but it was revealed that Amir would represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, hosted by Cyril Hanouna. Skydancers and Nazim Khaled edited and remixed "J'ai cherché" on the French radio's request, considering the song's original version, which had already been released as the first single from Amir's forthcoming album, "J'ai cherché" was edited and remixed. During the Véronic DiCaire Show on March 12, the entry was officially introduced to the public on March 12, 2016. With 257 points, the song finished 6th overall in the grand final, France's best result since 2002 and the country's highest-scoring entry in their competition history. On April 29, 2016, he launched his second studio album Au cé moi, which has also charted in Belgium and Switzerland, receiving a gold certificate in Switzerland. On August 29, 2016, "On dirait" became the album's third single. The song has risen to number 15 on the French Singles Chart, and the Chanson de l'Année award was won on June 17 at the Fête de la Musique event in Nîmes on June 17th. On February 6, 2017, "Au cur de moi" was released as the album's fourth single.

He competed with Stéphane Bern and Marianne James as a commentator for France 2 at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev on May 13. Amir also collaborated with OneRepublic on the French remix of their latest single "No Vacancy" in 2017. "États d'Amour" became his lead single from his third studio album, which will be released on October 27th. He revealed on September 7th, 2017 that Addictions would be his third studio album.

He was one of the domestic jury members for Destination Eurovision's semifinals alongside Christophe Willem and Isabelle Boulay to help France choose its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. He was unable to attend the final due to other commitments and was replaced by Alma, his Eurovision successor.

Amir assisted with the song "Mon alliée (The Best in Me)" for Tom Leeb, who was selected to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, before it was cancelled, along with 2019 Swedish Eurovision representative John Lundvik and renowned Swedish composer Thomas G.son.
