Amani Al-Khatahtbeh Life

Amani al-Khatahtbeh is an American author and entrepreneur.

She is the founder and editor-in-chief of MuslimGirl.com, a Muslim women's online magazine.

She was ranked in Forbes under 30 under 30 in media for her work with Muslim Girl at 23 years old.

At age 25, CNN named her one of the top Muslim Americans at 25 years old.

Early years

Al-Khatahtbeh was born in New Jersey to Jordanian and Palestinian descent. When she was 13 years old, her family moved to Jordan due to growing unrest in the Muslim community in the United States. Since her mother became ill, her family returned to New Jersey to be closer to their relatives who had already lived there. She grew closer to her Muslim identity in New Jersey and decided to wear the hijab as an act of resistance against Islamophobia. She decided to make her own and founded MuslimGirl.com in 2009 as a 17-year-old high school senior due to the fact that there was no online community of young Muslim women. Al-Khatahtbeh wrote a blog on the website with colleagues from her mosque.

She attended Rutgers University after high school, graduating in 2014 with a political science degree. She then worked for a non-profit group headquartered in Washington, D.C., before heading to New York and briefly working for a major media company.
