She has released three EPs and three albums.

"She" from Bombshell's December 2017 debut was included on the Oscar shortlist for Best Original Song.

Early life

Lou spent her childhood on the west coast of South Africa's Cape Peninsula in Kommetjie and attended a Waldorf school. Her parents are documentary filmmakers. As an infant, she took piano and guitar lessons. She was 14 years old when she first discovered trance music and started to photograph concerts, often getting paid for them. She spent her summer holidays in Paris with her aunt in 2010, but soon moved to live with a friend and started receiving money by fire-dancing.

She returned to Europe in 2012 after graduating from high school in South Africa, first to Amsterdam and then to Berlin. As she found out that this was more profitable than fire-dancing, she began to sing and play guitar in Berlin. She considered attending university in South Africa during her gap year, but decided against buying a battery powered amplifier and returning to Berlin instead. She appeared on S- and U-Bahn stations and parks in Berlin. She appeared on a television show after one month in Berlin. "Momentum" EP was self-released by the singer in April 2014. In the EP's soundtrack of the 2015 released film "Ayanda," the song "Fiery Heart, Fiery Mind" appears. She has also started to perform in venues.

She began receiving calls from record labels after a successful TEDx appearance in Berlin on September 6, 2014, but she wanted to remain anonymous. In December 2014, she released "Live at Grüner Salon" as a way to finance the recording of her debut studio album.

She began to tour in 2015 and appeared for the first time at the SXSW festival in the United States in 2015. She has returned to SXSW every year since being a child. She appeared in TEDGlobal London in 2015 and opened for Rodriguez on his 2016 South Africa tour.

Alice Phoebe Lou's album "Orbit," was released in April 2016 by Matteo Pavesi and Jian Kellett-Liew. She was nominated for best female artist at the 2016 German critics choice awards in Germany, and she was invited to several German television shows for interviews and performances. In 2016, she toured Europe, South Africa, and the United States, as well as three sold-out shows at the Berlin Planetarium. In addition, she continued busking in Berlin.

She released nine track "Sola" EP and a book titled "Songs, poems, and memories" in December 2017. Her song "She" from Bombshell is on the shortlist for Academy Awards' Best Original Song category, which will be released in the same month. On February 23, 2018, "She" was released as a digital single with a music video directed by Natalia Bazina. Lou's music video 'She's' was selected for Best Song in the 2018 edition of the Berlin Music Video Awards. "She" appears in two scenes of the German Film Kokon, which were released on February 21 (when 'Nora' and 'Romy' are on the roof of a house, listening to music, and, at the end, as 'Nora' finds her Caterpillar has metamorphosed into its adult form). Alice Phoebe Lou toured Europe, America, South Africa, Japan, and Canada in 2018.

On the first single Something Holy from her Paper Castles collection was released on October 30, 2018. Skin Crawl, the second single on January 15, 2019, was released digitally on January 15. Skin Crawl's video was nominated for third prize at the Berlin Music Video Awards in the best concept category in June. Galaxies, the third single on February 15, was announced on February 15, 2019; on March 8, 2019.

Alice was the artist of the Month of Consequence of Sound in March 2019. Maisie Williams was featured in a video of Galaxies in Berlin on May 6th.

A Place of My Own (Mahogany Sessions) EP, which featured four songs from Paper Castles' album that were recorded live, was released in digital form on July 12th, as well as a YouTube video of the recording session. The Lost in Los Angeles film was released on August 7th. The album is from Sola EP.

Alice was a part of a German ZDF TV's spekte-program on Friday, and her band performed Paper Castles with her band on November 15th.

In December, Paper Castles' album debuted at number 19 on the NBHAP magazine's 50 best albums of 2019 list, ranking sixth in FMS magazine's top 35 albums and EPs of 2019.

She appeared in over a hundred concerts in Europe, Japan, USA, and Canada during 2019. For example, she appeared on the 30th May 2019 at the main stage of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona for the first time. She appeared at another smaller venue later that day at the OCB Paper Sessions stage later that day. Bayerischer Rundfunk, a German television company, broadcasted and streamed her PULS-festival performance on Sunday in Munich, which was recorded on February 28, 2020. Despite extensive touring, Lou Lou remained to occasionally appear in Berlin parks and U-Bahn stations. For example on Arte, she had a short Europe tour in spring 2020 and then a few streamed and broadcast concerts followed.

The Witches single was released on March 13, 2020. Strongboi's self-titled video was unveiled by her Strongboi side project with Ziv Yamin a week before. On March 20, the song's digital single was announced. Strongboi's Honey Thighs digital single appeared on the 10th of April and Tuff Girl on August 7.

Live at Funkhaus, the December 2019 Funkhaus Berlin concert, was released on May 1 on May 1st. In addition, Julian Culverhouse's short film about Paper Castles tour was released. Touch single was released on June 26th. On September 18, Witches and Touch was released on a purple 7-inch vinyl with Witches and Touch.

In November, it was revealed that her third studio album, Glow, would be released in March 2021. Dusk's debut as a Glow-album vaping vain came on December 4th in a single and video. Alice's '12 Days of Paul' campaign featured Paul McCartney's unveiled track Deep Deep Feeling for McCartney's '12 Days of Paul' campaign on December 10, 2020. Dirty Mouth's second single was unveiled on the upcoming album with a music video on February 19, 2021. On March 19, 2021, Glow was first released.

Child's Play was released on December 2nd, 2021, without any advance warnings.

Though touring on the west coast of the United States on February 25, 2022, her side project Strongboi unveiled Fool Around. She will continue touring through the summer, and she will fly to North America in fall to support Billy Bragg.
