SHOH-kaht, born on April 18, 1989, is an American actress and singer.Hannah Rayburn (2003–2006; 2013–present) on the Fox/Netflix television sitcom Arrested Development (2001–2004), Gertie Michaels in the 2015 horror-comedy film The Final Girls, and Dory Sief in the TBS comedy comedy series Search Party (2016–present).

Early life
Shawkat was born in Riverside, California, to Dina Shawkat (née Burke) and film director Tony Shawkat. She grew up in Palm Springs. She has two brothers. Her father is from Baghdad, Iraq, and her mother is of Norwegian, Irish, and Italian descent. Paul Burke, her maternal grandfather, was an actor.
Personal life
Shawkat likes to paint when she is not acting; she has appeared in gallery shows in Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Paris. She also likes to make music and perform in jazz bars. She is bisexual.
Career
Shawkat appeared in State of Grace from 2001 to 2004. Shawkat, Maeby Fünke, was a regular cast member of Arrested Development from 2003 to 2019. The series received almost universally favorable feedback, with Shawkat's appearance being singled out for praise at times. Brian M. Palmer, a pop-culture expert, remarked that she was "one of the brightest lights on a show populated solely by bright lights," and eFilmCritic's Scott Weinberg referred to her as "one funny young lady." In an interview with The A.V., he discussed the benefits of The A.V. Shawkat remarked that several of her "development moments" as an actress took place on the Arrested Development set: "Mitch Hurwitz, a father figure to me," says the club's founder. In a sense, it was wonderful to be around [the cast], because my impression of comedy was able to expand quickly during that time."
Shawkat appeared in "All Boy" co-star Har Mar Superstar Har Mar Superstar's music video, which also starred Eva Mendes and Eric Wareheim. It was announced in October 2009 that Shawkat, Har Mar, and Whip It co-star Elliot Page would produce and write a show for HBO called Stitch N' Bitch. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show "follows two painfully young hipster girls who migrated from Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood to Los Angeles' Silver Lake enclave in the hopes of becoming artists—of any sort."

Six years after Fox cancelled the show, shooting for a new fourth season of Arrested Development began on August 7, 2012, and Shawkat reprised her role as Maeby Fünke. Shawkat appeared on Broad City in 2015 portraying the romantic interest and look-alike of Ilana Glazer's character for one episode; the two actors were only attracted to one another due to their similar appearances. In the 2019 film Animals directed by Australian director Sophie Hyde, Shawkat portrays Tyler, a high-living American partier in Dublin. It's a film about a woman's relationship that changes after Laura (played by Holliday Grainger) proposes her to her teetotalling boyfriend.
