Alexandra Elizabeth Paul (born July 29, 1963) is an American actress, activist, health coach, and former model.

Paul began modeling in New York before landing her first big role in John Carpenter's horror film Christine (1983).

This was followed by well-known roles in American Flyers (1985), 8 Million Ways to Die (1986), and Dragnet (1987). She is best known for her role as Lt.

Stephanie Holden appeared in the television series Baywatch from 1992-97.

She has appeared in more than 100 films and television shows.

Early life

Paul was born in New York City to Sarah, a social worker from England, and Mark Paul, an American investment banker. In the small town of Cornwall, Connecticut, Paul was raised alongside her identical twin sister Caroline and younger brother Jonathan. According to Paul, her mother was "a very liberal Democrat" and [her] father was a very conservative Republican." Caroline, her twin sister, has been a San Francisco firefighter (where she is often mistaken as Alexandra) and best-selling author. Jonathan, Jonathan's brother, is an animal rights activist.

Paul attended the Cornwall Consolidated School and the Groton School in Massachusetts. Paul had two major abdominal surgeries to remove choledochal cysts, leaving her with a scar extending from her sternum to her naval. Paul was accepted into Stanford University but chose not to attend so she could concentrate on an acting career.

Personal life

Since 2000, Paul has been married to Ian Murray. After reading the book Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lappé, she became a vegetarian at the age of fourteen and became a vegan in 2010.

Paul is child-free by choice.

In 1997, Paul competed in the Hawaii Ironman as an athlete. She completed the 2000 Boston Marathon. Among others, she has also completed the 11 mile Fiji Swim, the 12.5 mile Swim Around Key West, and the 2014 Reto Acapulco 14 mile swim.

Paul became a licensed health coach and now practices wellness coaching.

Paul is a vocal animal rights, feminist, peace, and gay rights campaigner. In 1986, she walked 5 1/2 weeks on the Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament. Between 1987 and 2000, Paul has been jailed for civil disobedience more than a dozen times at the Nevada Test Site. She was jailed in 1989 for peacefully advocating for HIV patients. After refusing to pay the $50 fine, she was arrested twice for civil disobedience during the Iraq War and spent five days in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center. She was jailed in 2005 for opposing the demise of the EV1, and she also served 80–100 hours of community service for electric car charities. Jonathan, Paul's younger brother, spent 51 months in jail for his part in the arson of a slaughterhouse.

Operation USA has taken her to Nicaragua and South Africa to register voters. Paul worked in Sierra Leone with the non-profit Population Media Center. Paul gave Ned Lamont's campaign against Joe Lieberman in 2006 because Lieberman approved the war in Iraq.

Last Chance for Animals named her as the year's best vegan of the year in 2014, and she was honoured by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2007 for her contributions to overpopulation problems.

Alexandra returned pigs from a factory farm to Direct Action Everywhere in 2016. Alexandra was arrested in 2017 after being caught on a sit-in at a Oakland, California slaughterhouse. Alexandra was arrested in 2018 at Sunrise Chicken Farm for a civil disobedience charge. She was arrested in 2019 for peacefully protesting at Reichardt Duck Farm, and she spent two days in Sonoma County jail. Alexandra and 6 other DxE demonstrators were jailed in Vernon, California, in September, 2020, after attempting to rescue a pig from a Farmer John slaughterhouse.

Paul said, "I'm not on her political activism" when speaking out about her political activism.

Paul appeared on television from the late 1980s to 1997, perhaps most well-known in her role on Baywatch. Paul began her modeling career in New York City and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Her first role was in the television film Paper Dolls (1982), followed by a role in the independent Canadian horror film American Nightmare (1983). Paul then landed a leading role in John Carpenter's horror film Christine (1983), opposite Keith Gordon, and a supporting role in the comedy Just the Way You Are (1984).

She appeared in the sport drama American Flyers (1985), 8 Million Ways to Die (1986), and the film Dragnet (1987), starring Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd. She appeared in Death Train (1993) and Nightwatch (1995) as well as the 1996 horror film The Paperboy (1994) and Spectre (1996).

She has appeared in 15 films for Lifetime Network since 1999. She has appeared in the Fox TV series Fire Company 132 and appeared in the last eight episodes of Melrose Place. In 2008, she appeared on Mad Men as a guest star. Winning Women and Earth Talk Today, a non-fiction television show hosted in southern California, where Earth Talk Today is a non-fiction television show hosted by Sheryl MacGregor. In a deleted scene parodying her Baywatch role, she made a cameo appearance with Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Spy Hard and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens was she in a cameo in Spy Hard and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens.

Paul was named in a comedy webseries' Best Supporting Actress in 2015.

Paul co-wrote and co-produced two documentaries: Jampacked, a film about the world population crisis, and Cool in a Materialistic World. At the EarthVision Environmental Film and Video Festival, Jampacked received a Bronze Apple Award and first place distinction. The Cost of Cooler received the CINE Golden Eagle Award. For the non-profit Plug In America, she produced eight PSAs on the benefits of driving electric cars.

Alexandra appeared in three films in 2019, one of which was Escaping My Stalker.

According to Variety, Fox has landed a revival of the highly popular series after the network has pulled out on a contract with Freemantle. Hasselhoff, now 72, appeared in the series from 1989 to 1999, before being retooled as Baywatch Hawaii from 1999 to 2001. Anderson, 56, was the lead of the red swimsuit brigade, which included actors like Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, Erika Eleniak, Nicole Eggert, Parker Stevenson, among other notables.

Charlie, her baby brother, survived. Paul was in Sochi in 2014 with Mitchell Islam, who went on to become her husband and father to their first child. After quitting the sport, Paul studied law and was working as an advocate at the time of her death.
