Alexander Koch Career

Life and career

Joseph and Joya Koch were born in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, to Joseph and Joya Koch. Ashleigh and Michelle, two older sisters, are among Koch's two older sisters. Joseph Koch, the late Wayne County assistant prosecutor, is his father. "It was kind of my first introduction to acting because I would go into the courtroom with him and watch him work," Koch recalls. "I was almost like if he were doing monologues" when he was presenting cases and whatnot."

In 2006, Koch graduated from Grosse Point South High School. Koch was heavily involved in both local community and high school theater productions.

He attended The Theatre School at DePaul University and immersed himself in performances including "A Lie of the Mind," "Intimate Apparel," "Normal," "Assassins," and "Reefer Madness: The Musical." He received his BFA in acting in 2012. In Eddie O'Keefe's independent short film "The Ghosts," Koch made his film debut as "Frank." When acting, Koch works with music and photographs. "I like to work with a lot of music while at work." The more I can imagine what a character would listen to, the more I feel like I have a place to create from." [Alexander admits that he's using songs to provide him with insight into his character, not just to bring him into an emotional space]. "I have a record player at home that I like, but since I've been in Wilmington [North Carolina], where the series is being shot], I couldn't take it with me. When I'm on set, I'm listening through headphones on my computer, just trying to get into and focus. Britt [Robertson] always mocks me for how I'm always in my chair listening to music. He also works with pictures. "I work at a hospital and find pictures and almost relate to them." If you have a specific image in your mind, it just makes the dialogue so much more meaningful."

Koch enjoys writing, playing the guitar, and collecting vinyl records in his spare time.
