Priti in pink! As she prepares to give Rishi Sunak a fresh headache at the forthcoming Tory conference, former Home Secretary Patel receives her damehood from Princess Anne at Windsor Castle

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 27, 2023
Dame Priti Patel was formally recognised by Princess Anne at an investiture dinner at Windsor Castle earlier this year by ex-prime minister Boris Johnson, who was given a damehood on his resignation honours list. Following her three-year tenure as the Home Office's head, she received the award for her "political and public service." Alex Sawyer, a marketing consultant and former Tory councillor, was among the Windsor Castle visitors to watch. Dame Priti attended the investiture service just days before she is likely to give Prime Minister Rishi Sunak a new headache at the Conservative Party's annual conference in Manchester. On the first night of the Tory gathering, which is being hosted by a pro-Boris Johnson campaign group, she is reportedly attending a black-tie gala dinner. Following Mr Johnson's ouster last summer, the Conservative Democratic Group was formed to call for a reform of Conservative Party laws. It requires a series of changes to encourage Tory members to 'take back control' by increasing their power over topics such as strategic planning and candidate selection. Mr Johnson has been back to Downing Street before, and CDO chiefs have previously stated that the group is a front to return him.
