Alexander Chuka Iwobi (born 3 May 1996) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays for Everton and the Nigeria national team as a forward.
Early and personal life
Iwobi was born in Lagos before moving to England at the age of four after a short stay in Turkey, and then grew up in Newham, London. Jay-Jay Okocha, a former professional footballer, is his maternal uncle.
Club career
Iwobi joined Arsenal in 2004 while attending primary school and was almost released by the club at the age of 14 and then again at the age of 16.
In a League Cup match against West Bromwich Albion on September 25, 2013, he was first involved in a first-team match as an unplanned replacement. In October 2015, he agreed to a long-term deal with Arsenal.
Iwobi made his first-team debut for the club on October 27, 2015, losing 3–0 to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup's Round of 16. He made his Premier League debut four days later against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium as a stoppage time substitute for Mesut zil. International career
Iwobi, a youth international for England or his home country Nigeria, was born in England, and he defeated England or Nigeria in 2011. Iwobi obtained 11 caps for England under the age of 18, but he went on to declare for Nigeria in 2015. In the 57th minute of a 2–0 friendly loss to DR Congo in Visé, Belgium, he made his senior debut for the Eagles on October 8th, replacing Ahmed Musa.
He was chosen by Nigeria for their 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics. He did not make it to the 18-man final squad.
Due to injury, Iwobi dropped out of Nigeria's squad for the next month's World Cup qualifiers.
