Alex Caceres (born June 20, 1988) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the featherweight division of the UFC.

A professional MMA competitor since 2008, Caceres mostly competed in his regional circuit, before signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championships to appear on The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs.

Team Koscheck.

Personal life

Growing up the son of a drug dealer, Caceres grew up in a less affluent neighbourhood having a tough upbringing. When his father went to prison, he was molested by a rival drug dealer of his father's. These turmoils led his family to move to a more affluent suburb. He is Cuban and Dominican.

Caceres was influenced by the documentary Forks Over Knives. He has cut out dairy and processed meat from his diet but is not a vegan. He has an interest in spirituality.

Caceres hails from Miami, Florida, where he works with the Young Tigers Foundation. Caceres is a fighter who is described as "inventive and creative" during combat, with some of them smiling during competition. Caceres never went the distance in any of his fights before joining the TUF family. "Bruce Leeroy" Caceres' name derives from the character in the film "The Last Dragon."

In Miami, Caceres formed an underground street fighting group. Most of the Caceres appeared in Florida-based advertisements. In February 2009, there was an appearance by the King of the Cage's message at "King of the Cage: Hurricane" in addition to the above. Eric Kovarik, his opponent in the contest, was coming off multiple losses in a row. Caceres stunned his opponent with a rear naked choke in less than two minutes.

Caceres won his second fight against Joel Garcia in May 2009 via submission (triangle choke) early in the first round before going on a two-fight losing streak. Both these losses were caused by armbars, boosting his record to 4-2 at the time.

Caceres won by TKO midway through the third round, snapping his losing streak.

Caceres then signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship to appear on The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck is a division of the Polish Federation.

Caceres faced Paul Barrow, who was 3-0 going into the show, in their debut episode. Caceres, who smiled for the majority of the fight, would eventually defeat Barrow by submission (rear naked choke) in the first round.

Caceres was selected as GSP's fourth pick in the second episode (eighth overall). During this episode against Jeff Lentz, the Caceres participated in his preliminary round match. Lentz's cardio was put into doubt prior to the match due to his smoking and drinking habits. However, Lentz went on to arguably win the first round of the match against Caceres. Caceres were locked in a triangle lock midway through the second round, knocking the tapout and placing him in the quarter-finals.

In episode 8, Team GSP had to choose which team members would face each other (considering that they had 5 members in the quarter-finals). St. Pierre asked each member to choose the fighter they would like to fight. Both Caceres and Michael Johnson selected themselves and announced their fight. After two rounds in episode 10, Johnson defeated Caceres by unanimous decision (20-18, 20-18, 20-18, 20-18).

Caceres made his official debut against Mackens Semerzier at UFC Fight Night in March 2011: No. 2 vs. Davis. In the first round, he lost by submission.

On August 14, 2011, Caceres was supposed to face Leonard Garcia at UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle. However, Garcia was forced out of the match due to an accident and then replaced by promotional newcomer Jimy Hettes. At 3:12 of round 2, Caceres was presented with a rear naked choke.

The Caceres then dropped to the bantamweight division and met former WEC Bantamweight champion Cole Escovedo on November 12, 2011 at UFC on Fox 1. Caceres triumphed by unanimous decision in a contest in which he starred in a much-improved striking and ground game.

Caceres faced Edwin Figueroa at UFC 143 on February 4, 2012, but they lost the match in a split decision. Referee Herb Dean had docked Caceres two points for two groin strikes.

Munoz vs. Weidman, the Caceres next meet Damacio Page on July 11, 2012 at UFC on Fuel TV: Munoz vs. Weidman. In the second round, he gained the match by submission. In addition, the finish earned him the Submission of the Night award.

On November 10, 2012, Caceres was supposed to face promotional newcomer Kang Kyung-ho at UFC on Fuel TV 6. However, Kang was forced out of the match due to an injury and was replaced by promotional newcomer Motonobu Tezuka. Caceres won by a split decision over a newcomer in UFC.

The match with Kang was postponed until March 3, 2013, according to UFC on Fuel TV 8. Caceres won the back-and-forth battle by a landslide vote. Caceres had failed his post-fight drug test, which was positive for marijuana, according to the test results on March 20, 2013. Caceres was banned for six months, retroactive to March 3, 2013, but his victory over Kang was changed to a No Contest.

At UFC 165, the Caceres next meet Roland Delorme on September 21, 2013. He had good striking skills and takedown defense, and he was able to win the match by split decision.

On December 7, 2013, the Caceres was supposed to meet Mitch Gagnon at UFC Fight Night 33. However, the bout was called off during the week leading up to the tournament due to a suspected visa problem for Gagnon, which barred his entry to Australia.

On January 25, 2014, the Caceres faced Sergio Pettis of UFC on Fox 10. By a rear-naked choke submission at 4:49 of the third round, he secured the back-and-forth battle. In addition, the win gave Caceres his first Fight of the Night and second Submission of the Night bonus awards.

Caceres defeated Urijah Faber at UFC 175 on July 5, 2014. It was his tenth fight with the promotion. In the third round, he was disqualified due to a back-naked choke throw.

Masanori Kanehara, the Caceres' newcomer, made his debut at UFC Fight Night 52 on September 20, 2014. He was disqualified by a unanimous decision in the fight.

On June 6, 2015 at UFC Fight Night 68, Cacares defeated Francisco Rivera. He lost the first round by a knockout, the first time he had been knocked out in his career.

At UFC on Fox 18, the Caceres defeated Masio Fullen in a featherweight match on January 30, 2016. He received the fight by unanimous decision.

Cole Miller's next match for the Caceres was at UFC 199 on June 4, 2016. He was able to win by a majority decision.

In the main event of UFC Fight Night 92, the Caceres defeated Yair Rodrez. He was disqualified by a split decision in the fight. Both fighters were given a $50,000 reward for their participation in Fight of the Night.

The Caceres will next face Jason Knight at UFC on Fox 23 on January 28, 2017. In the second round, he was disqualified by submission.

Rolando Dy, the country's newcomer, took on Corm vs. Correia on June 17, 2017. In round one, the Caceres came out strong, knocking Dyrek off his feet. In round two, a brief timeout was called to examine Dy's eye, and the brawl ensued. However, the referee called the match to a halt in round two due to a physician's suggestion concerning Dy's eye injury. Dy was obviously furious by the referee's ruling and Caceres was given the victory by TKO.

Wang Guan's match was postponed and concluded on November 25, 2017 at UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Gastelum Caceres lost the back-and-forth match by a split decision on November 25, 2017.

Caceres had been scheduled to face Artem Lobov on April 7, 2018, but the match was postponed due to Lobov's involvement in the Team McGregor bus melee.

The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale took place on July 6, 2018. He gained the fight by a split decision. This win earned him the Fight of the Night award.

Kron Gracie, the Caceres' promotional newcomer, appeared on ESPN 1 on February 17, 2019. In the first round, he was disqualified due to a rear-naked choke.

Caceres face Steven Peterson at UFC on ESPN 4 on July 20, 2019. He was able to win the contest by unanimous vote.

On June 6, 2020 at UFC 250, the Caceres met Chase Hooper. He won the match by unanimous vote.

At UFC Fight Night 175, Caceres was supposed to face Giga Chikadze on August 29, 2020. However, Chikadze pulled out of the match due to a positive test for COVID-19, and Kevin Croom was briefly replaced by promotional newcomer Kevin Croom. Croom was scrubbed and replaced by Austin Springer the next day. Springer weighed in at 151 pounds, five pounds over the featherweight non-title fight maximum at the weigh-ins. Springer was fined 30% of his purse, which went to Caceres, as the bout progressed at catchweight. In the first round, the Caceres won the fight by submission.

At UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Gane, the Caceres met Kevin Croom on February 27, 2021. He was a unanimous winner in the fight.

On October 23, 2021, the Caceres faced Seung Woo Choi at UFC Fight Night 196. Caceres won round two after recovering from an early injury and unlawful knee. This win earned him the Night Award.

At UFC Fight Night 203, the Caceres met Sodiq Yusuff on March 12, 2022. The Caceres lost the match by unanimous decision.
