Alec Clunes Life

Alexander Sheriff de Moro "Alec" Clunes (17 May 1912 – March 1970) was an English actor and stage manager.

Peter Ustinov's debut with his film The House of Regrets gave the actor and dramatist his first break.

His film career was brief, but it was also varied.

He appeared in Richard III (1955) by Laurence Olivier (1955) and was also featured in films such as One of Our Aircraft Is Missing (1942), but he was actually a conscient objector.

He appeared in The Adventures of Quentin Durward (1955).

In 1968, he appeared on stage for the final time.

Early and personal life

Alexander Sheriff de Moro Clunes was born in 1912 to a show business family, and he was the nephew of Alexander Sydenham Clunes (1881–1960) and Georgina Sumner (1882–1969). He began his stage career with Ben Greet's firm before playing at the Old Vic Theatre in 1934. He appeared in numerous Shakespearian roles before taking over the Arts Theatre in London in 1942, where he remained until 1950. In Cecil Court, he later owned a theatre bookshop.

He was twice married: to actress Stella Richman, later a television actress, and Daphne Gillian Acott, with whom he had one son, actor Martin Clunes.

Alec Clunes died of lung cancer on March 13, 1970, at the age of 57. Amanda Clunes left a widow, his son, and a daughter.
