At 47 years old, Alberto del Río has this physical status:
José Alberto Rodrez, a Mexican-American professional wrestler, promoter, and mixed martial artist, was born May 25, 1977.
He is best known for his two stints in WWE under the ring name Alberto Del Rio, as well as his work outside of WWE under the ring name Alberto El Patron. Rodrs name Dos Caras Jr. was both a mixed martial artist and luchador in large Mexico and Japan, winning the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship once more before working for WWE.
Rodrez joined WWE in 2009 and made his debut on their main roster the following year as Alberto Del Rio.
Since winning the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship twice each, he became the first Mexico-born world champion in WWE history.
He also won the 2011 Royal Rumble and the 2011 Money in the Bank ladder match, making him the first professional wrestler to win both in the same calendar year. Rodrn departed WWE in 2014 and competed as Alberto El Patrón in other competitions, including Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), Ring of Honor (ROH), Lucha Underground, Japanese and Puerto Rican promotions, and numerous US independent promotions.
He has won the AAA Mega Championship twice before.
He returned to WWE in 2015, winning the United States Championship twice before fading out in 2016.
He later signed with Impact Wrestling and captured the Impact World Championship title at Slammiversary XV.
Family and early life
His father, luchador Dos Caras, is one of Mexico's most well-known wrestling families, while his uncles, Mil Máscaras and Sicodelico, were born in San Luis Potos'. Sicodelico Jr. and Hijo de Sicodelico are both wrestlers. Guillermo, his younger brother, signed a WWE deal in August 2012 and was transferred to the promotion's growth market NXT under the ring name Memo Montenegro, but was released in July 2013.
Rodrón graduated from Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potos, where he obtained a degree in architecture.
Personal life
Rodrez was previously married to Angela Velkei, with whom he has three children. Velkei filed for divorce from Rodrn in June 2016 and claimed that the marriage took place in June due to adultery. Del Ro's uncle, Juana Velkei, died on the 28th of April 2022, but he didn't specify which was the medical condition for which she was hospitalized on the Hospital San José in Naucalpan, State of Mexico. Velkei died on May 2nd of the same year, Del Ro said on his social media.
Rodrez and Saraya-Jade Bevis, a professional wrestler, better known as Paige, went public about their friendship in May 2016. In October 2016, the two met for the first time. In late 2017, the pair split up. During an interview with Hannibal TV, Rodriguez threatened to prosecute Paige for previous arrests and also allegations of domestic assault against her.
Rodrez owned La Cantinita, a restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, which opened in 2016. However, the restaurant closed in November 2017.
Rodrez became a naturalized citizen of the United States on May 24th.
Rodrn was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, on May 9, 2020, after reportedly battering and sexually assaulting his mother. He was booked into the Bexar County jail on suspicion of sexual assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm. Rodra later was released on $50,000 bail at around 3:30 a.m. on May 10th. Two felonies charged Rodrng kidnapping and sexual assault on October 9th. Rodriguez's trial was postponed several times before the charges were eventually dismissed on December 10, 2021.
Professional wrestling career
Rodrón returned to the family business and trained with his father to be a professional wrestler after not competing in the 2000 Olympic games. When he ran in during an AAA (now known as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide) show to save his father from a beating by El Texano and Pirata Morgan, he made his debut on May 9th. Caras gained ring experience in Mexico and Japan over the next two years. He appeared on television shows like the 2002 Verano de Escándalo, where he teamed with El Gronda and El Solitario to defeat the trio of Pirata Morgan, Sangre Chicana, and El Brazo.
Rodrs first foray into puroresu was in 2001, when he defeated Kazunari Murakami at the YUKI-BA-YE event. Rodr returned to Japan the following year for Pro Wrestling Zero1 (Zero1) and All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). Rodrez, who suffered for Zero1 primarily between 2002 and 2003, joined Hustle, debuting at their inaugural Hustle 1 event. Dos Caras Jr. and Hustle Kamen Gold will continue to wrestle for Hustle until October 2004.
Caras was signed to a Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in 2005. Caras' participation in the 2005 La Copa Junior series was his first test in the company, but the tournament's storyline showed him that the bookers were keen in moving him up the ranks, and he was also rewarded when he qualified for both the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship and the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship within a three-week period. On March 31, 2006, Caras was entered again into the La Copa Junior tournament, winning by a landslide over Dr. Wagner Jr., who had knocked him out of the tournament the previous year. He also won against Heavy Metal and Apolo Dantés to win a spot in the final, beating Héctor Garza to win the prize. Caras had opted to teaming with Lizmark Jr., a second-generation wrestler, and when they landed in CMLL, they were reunited once more, with the team's legendary fathers being the team's main selling point. Caras found himself without much direction over the next year, he wrote storylines with ltimo Guerrero and Kenzo Suzuki, but nothing long-term was forthcoming. Caras had two chances to fight Universo 2000 for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in a few years but decided against it on July 8, 2007, when he became the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. Although wrestling promotions outside of Mexico would claim that he was the best man in the federation, Mexican wrestling promotions are putting more emphasis on the lower weight divisions over the heavyweights.
Since the WWE's labour relations came to an end, he began to appear as a rudo (villain). He turned his attention away from the matches to gain the support of the followers, often costing his team the game because he was distracted. Caras himself referred to this conduct by claiming that he "hurt his shoulder" but "steadly stayed in the arena." Caras had hints at a change for weeks, but he finally established himself as a heel on April 11, 2009, the second member of the Rodr family to be a villain (after his uncle, El Sicodélico Sr). Caras' participation in the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship was largely uneventful, with just four title defenses in the 533 days he held the championship before losing it and heading to WWE.
Rodrn had been wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) by the fall of 2008, and that they had promised him a deal. He may have signed or not arose over the months of conflicting evidence regarding whether he had signed or not arose, but he remained the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. When he lost the championship to ltimo Guerrero, it was speculated that he had indeed signed with WWE, with him being rumored to be a surprise participant in the 2009 Royal Rumble. However, he stayed with CMLL and said he had signed a four-year contract and selected CMLL because they gave him a better deal than WWE.
Rodrs mother, Rodro, announced on June 17, 2009 that he had signed a three-year contract with WWE, implying that he did not have to go to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE's youth division, not necessarily to the main roster, but rather to the main roster. In addition, he'll keep the right to his name, mask, and image, but he'll allow the WWE to use it for promotional purposes as long as he is under contract with them. Since it addressed the main reasons why he turned down the WWE's bid in January 2009, he consented to the deal. Despite his allegations, Dos actually played in a match against Kris Logan at FCW. He then continued to wrestle under the ring names Dorado and El Dorado. Rodrón revealed Alberto Banderas, a new, unidentified wrestling character, during a segment on the Abraham Washington show at the 6 August taping. He was mocked by several Mexicans for announcing, to which he replied that only a few people knew why he lost the mask in that way. He made numerous appearances in untelevised matches for the Raw brand during WWE's WrestleMania Revenge tour of Europe in April 2010. He wrestled as Dos Caras one night, but not wearing his mask. In a losing bid against Christian, he was portrayed as a villain. Caras donned his mask for WWE's tour of Mexico and served as a hometown hero before being unveiled in subsequent Raw and SmackDown matches. Rodrn later admitted that he loasted his time in FCW, but that he learned a lot.
Rodro, the unmasked Alberto Del Rio, appeared on a taped promotional video on June 25, 2010 during his SmackDown episode. Following his appearance as an arrogant wealthy Mexican aristocrat, a vignette aired every week on SmackDown, promoting his own virtues of honesty, integrity, and mental abilities. Del Rio failed his first match at a house show in Brisbane, Australia, and a week later, he made his television debut on the 20 August episode of SmackDown by defeating Rey Mysterio in the main event by submission with the cross armbreaker. Del Rio made his entrances in a costly vehicle as part of his act, although his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez introduced him. Del Rio continued the storyline with Mysterio after his match with Kane, causing him to suffer a storyline injury by refusing to relinquish his armbar. He defeated Matt Hardy by submission in Hardy's last appearance with the organization, causing Hardy's friend Christian to face Del Rio in a match at Night of Champions. Despite the fact that the game has diminished, SmackDown Del Rio's 24 September episode of SmackDown Del Rio assaulted Christian and injured him in the same way he did at Mysterio the previous month. Since he had sustained a torn pectoral muscle, it was done to write Christian off television. Mysterio returned from SmackDown's episode on October 8th, defeating Del Rio for his first defeat in the main event competition. Del Rio defeated Chris Masters to represent Bragging Rights in October, but he did not criticize Teammate Rey Mysterio until being barred from the match by Team Raw's CM Punk. Del Rio captained a team against Rey Mysterio's team at Survivor Series, the traditional five-on-five elimination match. Despite Del Rio's team losing, he was forced from the game after Big Show knocked him out with a WMD. Del Rio defeated Big Show by counting out on November 26th to qualify for the 2010 King of the Ring tournament. Daniel Bryan, the United States champion, appeared in the first round of Raw, but he was disqualified by John Morrison in the semifinal after being distracted by Mysterio while inside his car. El Rio's Tables, Ladders & Chairs were defeated in a fatal four-way Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the World Heavyweight Championship, which also featured Kane and Rey Mysterio. Del Rio defeated Mysterio in a two-out-of-three-falls match on January 7, 2011 on SmackDown, with Rido Rodriguez's help in bringing Mysterio out of the equation to bring an end to his long feud with Mysterio.
Del Rio mentored rookie Conor O'Brian, who became the second contestant to be barred from the tournament on January 18th, on the fourth season of NXT, beginning in December 2010. The rookies debuted in a crucial four-way match next week, in which the winner could decide their prognostute. Brodus Clay won the tournament and selected Del Rio as his new pro. Del Rio recruited Clay as his bodyguard after NXT's conclusion.
Del Rio defeated 39 other participants in the 2011 Royal Rumble, last eliminating Santino Marella, to win the 2011 Royal Rumble and compete for either the World Heavyweight Championship or the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXVII. Del Rio's next night will feature in Edge's World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio, the Del Rio defamation chamber, attacked Edge after he had successfully defended his title and solidified his position as Del Rio's opponent at WrestleMania. Edge, on the other hand, was able to come out victorious after recovering from his injury and striking Del Rio. On the 18th episode of SmackDown, Del Rio and Christian had their first one-on-one match in a steel cage, which Christian won. Del Rio was disqualified in his World Heavyweight Championship match against Edge at WrestleMania XXVII. Del Rio defeated Christian on the 8th episode of SmackDown on April 8th to earn a rematch against Edge at Extreme Rules. However, Del Rio was then booked to face Christian in a ladder match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship after Edge unexpectedly departed from professional wrestling on April 11th.

Show returned three weeks later, chasing Del Rio out of the competition and beating Rodriguez down. Del Rio defeated Show by referee stoppage on June 19th, when he was unable to continue the game due to a pre-match assault by Mark Henry. Del Rio defeated Show in a steel cage match on June 27th on a Raw/British Show, perhaps due to Henry's intervention.
Del Rio defeated Alex Riley, Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, R-truth, and Rey Mysterio in the Raw Money in the Bank ladder match for a future WWE Championship match, while still being the first wrestler to win a Royal Rumble and a Money in the Bank match in the same year. Del Rio attempted to cash in on CM Punk later that night, having just defeated John Cena for the WWE Championship, but Punk had assaulted and laid out before he could do so. Del Rio later earned his deal at SummerSlam on August 14th, challenging CM Punk after the main event, where he had deposed John Cena to become the undisputed WWE Champion. Punk was beaten by Kevin Nash during the two matches, resulting in Del Rio winning the WWE Championship for the first time. Del Rio became the first Mexican-born WWE Champion in winning the title. Del Rio's first televised championship defense on Raw began the next night, defeating Rey Mysterio to maintain his position. Del Rio lost the championship to John Cena on September 18th but recovered it at Hell in a Cell on October 2nd by defeating Cena and Punk in a Cell match in a Hell in a Cell match. After The Miz and R-Truth interfered, Del Rio successfully defended the WWE Championship against John Cena in a Last Man Standing match on October 23. Del Rio lost the WWE Championship to Punk on Friday night at Survivor Series on November 20th. On the 28th November episode of Raw, Del Rio received a WWE championship rematch but lost after Punk dropped him into an exposed turnbuckle, preventing him from being disqualified, which would have cost him the title. Del Rio's Tables, Ladders & Chairs match, which also involved The Miz, failed to regain the WWE Championship from Punk on 18 December. On July 15, Del Rio had a second shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank, where he had to forfeit Sheamus once more. Del Rio's next night on Raw was going to unleash his doubts over Zack Ryder, but his post-match assault was interrupted by his longtime rival Rey Mysterio who was back in town and assaulting him. After Rodriguez intervened, Del Rio and Ziggler lost to Mysterio and Sheamus by disqualification, but Del Rio vehemently assaulted Sheamus. Del Rio defeated Daniel Bryan, Kane, and Mysterio in a tense four-way match on July 27th to become the top contender for the World Heavyweight Championships. After Del Rio threatened to press charges against Sheamus for stealing his vehicle on the 6 August episode of Raw, which may have barred Sheamus from attending SummerSlam, the title match was pushed back to the 10th episode of SmackDown. However, Del Rio assaulted Sheamus as well as men posing as police officers before the match began, resulting in SmackDown GM Booker T taking away his number one competitor's status in result. However, Sheamus had the championship match postponed for SummerSlam on August 19th, where Del Rio failed to dethrone Sheamus after the referee did not notice Del Rio's foot on the bottom rope. Del Rio defeated Randy Orton by submission on August 24th, making him the top ten contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio pleaded guilty of assault after Sheamus assaulted him and Rodriguez on the 3rd edition of Raw, resulting in Booker T banning the Brogue Kick, with the warning that if Sheamus used the move again, he would be barred from the World Heavyweight Championship. Booker T. Thompson's inquiry into the risks of the move, however, was lifted on Wednesday, at Night of Champions. Sheamus defeated Del Rio and retained the World Heavyweight Championship in the match that ensued.

Raw, Del Rio's next night fell to Orton in a two-out-three-falls match, putting an end to the feud.

Rodr confirmed that WWE owned the Alberto Del Rio name and that he would be working for AAA under the new ring name El Patrón ("The Boss") in a press conference on August 14th. During ring debuts and Spanish commentary, Ricardo Rodriguez was dubbed this in WWE, but it was not trademarked. Rodro also stated that for the time being, he was under a 90-day no-compete contract, which would prevent him from qualifying for AAA. Del Rio later revealed that as part of his WWE demise, he was barred from competing in the United States for one year. El Patrón and his father, Dos Caras, appeared to open the show on August 17th, claiming that the organization was racist. They were interrupted by Los Perros del Mal's stable. After one of the members laid his hands on Caras, El Patrón ran after the stable and cleared house, though authorities informed him that the WWE has the no-compete clause. After winning in the main event, El Patrón began attacking Los Perros del Mal leader El Hijo del Perro Ayo. Rodró's lawyers had sorted out his problems with WWE in early September 2014, and he was no longer bound by the 90-day no-compete clause. El Patrón would make his return to Tripleman's XXV in 2018, facing a mysterious adversary. However, AAA did not mention El Patrón's match as part of the final card during a press conference on August 21. El Patrón said he would not appear after having a talk with Dorian Roldán about the money, but that they didn't find an opponent for him. Alberto had no involvement with the recruitment, so they did not include him in the final roster, according to Roldán.
The World Wrestling Council launched a storyline on August 24th, 2014, when heel boss Juan Manuel Ortega talked by telephone with someone only identified as "patrón" and recalled a reunion that had been held at WrestleMania XXX. The former WWE ring announcer had been sent on behalf of El Patrón, earning a "personal note" before leaving the scene. For Septiembre Negro, where González Sr. defeated and injured Rodriguez (now named "El Emisario del Patrón"), the two teams met immediately, defeating El Patrón to a match at WWC Aniversario. The storyline with Rodriguez continued on September 24, 2014, when he was depicted calling Ortega to inform El Patrón's presence at Aniversario. However, after being informed that he was unable to attend and the storyline devolved, with Hernandez supplanting him at Aniversario.

This resulted in a match against El Texano Jr. in a Bullrope match on March 25th, where he successfully defended the AAA Mega Championship against El Texano Jr. Alberto defeated Johnny Mundo in a match for the Lucha Underground Championship's number one contender. Alberto was defeated by Hernandez on May 13, 2015, but he was defeated by him after Mundo threw him against a window, losing his opportunity.
