Tsai was born and raised in San Jose, California. He is bilingual and fluently speak Mandarin. When he was involved in a school play, Tsai discovered his passion in acting at seven years old. In 2013, he made his first television appearance on CBS' How I Met Your Mother. In the critically acclaimed comedy series Trophy Wife, Bert Harrison, the adopted Chinese son of an attorney and his ex-wife, was cast later this year. By The Huffington Post, his participation on the show earned him a prize for Best Supporting Actor from the Critics' Choice Television Awards, and he was named as a Breakout TV Star of 2013 for 2013. Tsai was a regular cast member on the show until its cancellation in 2014.
