Bert Martinez and Margarita Pineda were born in Manila on April 19, 1961.
Personal life
Bert Martnez, his father, was a character actor in the 1960s. Albert was married to Liezl Sumilang from 1985 to her death in 2015. In the late 1980s, the couple operated up to 46 massage therapy clinics in California. They had three children, including actor Alfonso Martinez. William Martnez and Ronnie Martinez are both actors in his younger brother's film.
Career
Martinez began as a film actor. In 1980's film Anna Liza, he appeared on GMA Network for his first teleserye role as Glenn. Glenn was the suitor of Anna Liza, who was portrayed by Julie Vega.
Martinez cites actor John Travolta's acting style as his inspiration for his own film roles. Travolta's role in Face/Off, Broken Arrow, and Battlefield Earth characterized him as having a tongue-in-cheek style in portraying. Martinez lauded Travolta for his "shine" on the aforementioned films, despite not portraying "natural characters." Since he began his film career, Christopher de Leon became his idol.
Ferdinand Fuentebuella, who marries a woman from a wealthy family to save the money of his own family, is depicted in Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin.
