Through Myspace in December 2009, Alaska met future boyfriend Sharon Needles (stage name Aaron Coady) and then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to live with him in 2010. She formed the band Haus of Haunt, which later evolved to a drag troupe based out of Pittsburgh's iconic Blue Moon, alongside Needles and Cherri Baum. She appeared in the hometown of Haunt in 2013 as part of the Haus of Haunt. Christeene Vale, the city's first drag queen and recording artist, appeared on the Pittsburgh stage for the first time in 2013. Willam Belli later impersonated Vale in his music video "RuPaulogize."

Alaska performed on "We Are the World"-inspired "Can I Get an Amen?" as part of the show. The song's proceeds went to the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. Alaska was named the runner-up at the season finale in May 2013 alongside fellow competitor Roxxxy Andrews. Jinkx Monsoon was the season's champion.

Alaska's second album, Poundcake, came in the same year. "The T," "Stun," and "Puppet" are three singles from the album's album. The album was released after the puppet competition on RuPaul's Drag Race, where Alaska and fellow contestant Lineysha Sparx created Lil' Poundcake, a rebellious puppet.
