Georges Alan Cavé (born in New York City on February 27, 1966) is a Haitian-American lead singer for the compas (kompa) band Zin.
Early years
Cavé was born in Haiti and spent the majority of his adolescent years in Haiti. His mother, Yanick Jean, was a writer, and the father, Syto Cavé, was a writer, editor, and art director. Cavé accompanied his well-known father on his Caribbean tours (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia), France, the United States, and Canada.
Cavé was destined to follow in their footsteps as surrounded by people who loved the arts and were born to writers. Alan played guitar often during his teenage years, belting out soulful and heartfelt words and melodies that seemed to be beyond his age. Cavé's debut came after an actor in a play fell ill and he was asked to perform "La Personne" on a Sunday. Cavé's eagerness for a musical career sparked, and Alan Cavé became a household name in Haiti.
Cavé joined the firm Zin in 1987 after working with Alex Abellard and Eddy Saint-Vil to audition, and he was immediately signed for the group. In 1989, the group's first album, "O Pa," debuted. More than two decades later, Zin's guitarist-songwriter Eddy St. Vil, keyboardist and founder Alex Abellard, and the 11 band members remain popular, with sweet ballads and traditional Haitian kompa grooves. Cavé's voice, which has been often described as "seductive," has played a role in the band's popularity.
Career
Cavé has a catalogue of songs and unreleased recordings in English, French, and Haitian Creole. When asked what inspires him, he replied simply: "Life and People." He said he would like to be remembered as both a writer and composer because writing songs and releasing an album requires not only talent but also passion, aspiration, discipline, and hard work. He is a sought-after performer in the French-Caribbean community.
Cavé has worked with several well-known kompa artists and bands of the French Caribbean, including Malavoi, Mario DeVolcy, Tanya Saint-Val, Haddy N'jie, and Roy Shirley. Se Pa Pou Dat, his first solo album, was a huge success in 2001. Despite the fact that listeners may not recognize the terms, this album seems to transcend barriers of language and cultural sound, with its melodies famous in Japan, Africa, and South America. He continues to work as a soloist and has released five solo kompa albums.
