Ahmet Emuukha Rodan Zappa (born May 15, 1974) is an American singer and writer as well as the executor of the Zappa Family Trust.

Early life

Ahmet Zappa was born in Los Angeles, California, the third of four children born to musician Frank Zappa and businesswoman Gail Zappa (née Sloatman). His father was of Italian (Sicilian), Greek, Arab, and French descent, and his mother was of German and Portuguese descent. Ahmet Ertegun (co-founder and president of Atlantic Records), who his father adored greatly, is believed to have been named after him. This is contradicted by Neil Slaven in Electric Don Quixote: Frank Zappa's Definitive Story, who writes: "All Is Unintelable" is the protagonist.

Dweezil Zappa and Moon Zappa are his older brother and sister, and Diva Zappa is his younger sister.

Personal life

Selma Blair, a married Zappa actress, married at Carrie Fisher's Beverly Hills, California, on January 24, 2004. On June 21, 2006, Blair applied for divorce in the Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause. "Selma and Ahmet have decided to divorce, but will continue to be close friends," a couple's spokeswoman told People.

Zappa is now married to Shana Muldoon, writer, and creator of Disney Star Darlings, as well as actor Patrick Muldoon's sister. Halo Violetta Zappa, who was born in 2010, and Arrow D'Oro Leon Zappa, who was born in 2016.

Career

Ahmet Zappa has released several albums with his brother Dweezil, as well as wrote the song "Frogs with Dirty Little Lips" with his father.

He has appeared in numerous feature films and television shows. He appeared on Channel 4's The Adam and Joe Show in late 1990s as a policeman, in which hosts Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, dressed as policemen, investigated his vinyl collection for "criminal evidence." He appeared in the film Ready to Rumble in 2000. He performed a cover of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" for the film's soundtrack with his brother Dweezil. Other appearances include hosting Robotica (TV series) and But Can They Sing?

In July 2006, Zappa's debut novel, The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless, was published in July. Bruckheimer Films and Disney purchased the rights to a movie. Tim Firth, a screenwriter, is assisting in the film's production, but no release date has been announced.

The Jim Henson Company announced on October 19, 2006 that it had recruited Zappa to write a review for a film adaptation of the hit 1980s television show Fraggle Rock. He's also written a sequel to The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless, which had also been licensed to adapt to a screenplay. Zappa suggested to Disney's studio head Bob Iger that the company develop a graphic novel-to-film division; the result was "Disney's Kingdom Comics." Zappa was also granted a first-look at Walt Disney Studios for motion picture productions. Monsterfoot Productions is his company's name. Timothy Green's debut, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, was released in 2012 by Walt Disney Pictures, starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton.

Ahmet and his sister Diva were granted control of the Zappa Family Trust with 30% each, following Gail's death in October 2015, although his siblings Moon and Dweezil were given smaller shares of 20% each. Moon and Dweezil will not profit from the trust until it is profitable—and they will not be able to profit from it until it is profitable—and will not be allowed by Ahmet, the trustee, to make money from their father's music or merchandise bearing their name. Dweezil and Ahmet have feud over various problems involving Zappa's children, including a feud over Dweezil's use of his father's music in live performances.

The trust under Ahmet's direction suggested a trademark on the word Zappa, which would discourage Dweezil from using the word for commercial purposes without authorization. Dweezil has been touring Zappa Plays Zappa since 2006, with his father playing his father's songs. The trust requested a fee from Dweezil for continued use of the name, as well as proceeds from Zappa Plays Zappa merchandise sold at Zappa Plays Zappa concerts.
