Career

Richman's film career has included guest appearances on Guiding Light, All My Children, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and a portrayal of God as a butcher on Joan of Arcadia. He has appeared in numerous national television commercials in addition to appearing in regional theater productions around the country.

Richman, a self-educated food specialist and certified sushi chef, has kept a travel journal listing every restaurant he has visited since 1995.

Richman began as a TV host in 2008 with the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food," which shows Richman visiting various cities and participating in eating challenges. Richman's time on the show lasted for four seasons until 2012. (It was revived in 2017 with Casey Webb as the new host.) Richman would exercise twice a day to maintain his fitness while taping the show. If the schedule permitted, he would not eat the day before a contest. He also tried to stay hydrated by sipping a lot of water or club soda, and avoiding coffee and soft drinks. Richman did not participate in the eating competitions himself, but rather supervised others to do so. He said at the time that this change was not made because he wanted to avoid eating large amounts of food, but rather in order to keep the show interesting.

Richman gained a significant amount of weight and became depressed during his time as a competitive eater. He gained 60 pounds (27 kg) after leaving competitive eating for the first time.

During Season 3 of Man vs. Food, Richman was a paid spokesman for Zantac.

America the Edible: A Hungry History From Sea to Dining Sea, Richman's book America the Edible: A Hungry History From Sea to Dining Sea, which was published by Rodale Publishing on November 9, 2010.

In Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market, Tommy DiNic's roast-pork sandwich was his "Best Sandwich in America."

Richman produced Adam Richman's Fandemonium, a travel television series that lasted for one season in 2013; the series featured him in various fan festivals around the country, including sporting tournaments. Some Instagram followers responded to the hashtag, and Richman responded to them by yelling them as "haters" and instructing one to "grab a razor blade and draw a bath." He later apologized, but Richman's series Man Finds Food, which was supposed to debut in July 2014, was postponed until April 2015.
