Adam Goren Career

Background and music career

Goren was born in The Bronx, New York City, but he and his companion Brian Sokel, who was a teen, became a big inspiration for several of his songs. As a youth, he performed in several local bands. Goren began playing with the punk band Fracture in 1991, and he stayed with them until 1995. When Goren was in school, a friend and guitarist Andrew Dick introduced him to music sequencers, and he started writing music with a one in his spare time. He began performing shows under the moniker Atom & His Package later in life, consisting of himself and a B.C. Rich guitar and his QY700 music sequencer, but the exact nature of "the set" changed over the years as Goren cycled through various sequencers and notebooks.

On Bloodlink Records in 1997, he introduced The First CD, his first album. He has released numerous more albums and EPs as well as appeared on various compilations, all while touring around the world.

When his wife Jennifer Schumow-Goren became pregnant and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Goren stopped Atom & His Package in 2003. In April, he appeared at what was supposed to be the final Atom & His Package show in Philadelphia and later launched a DVD/DVD set of the show's recording titled Hair: Debatable [sic] in 2004. Armalite, a punk band that released a self-titled full-length album in 2004, after taking a break from music, continued to perform.

Goren returned to The Fest 7 in Gainesville, Florida, on November 1, 2008.

Up End Atom, a tribute album to Atom & His Package, was released on July 14, 2009, starring Steinbeck, MC Chris, Math the Band, The Zambonis, MC Lars, Curt Allen, Locas in Love, The Emotron, Curt Allen, Locas in Love, and The Golden Bloom, a celebration of Radon's "Lying to You." On "Goalie," Goren himself performed the vocals on The Zambonis' cover of "Goalie."

Goren began playing with punk cover band TV Casualty in 2010. In 2011, TV Casualty released a self-titled series of six Misfits covers on vinyl, and Armalite released Humungous [sic]. Armalite debuted at The Fest 10 in October the same year.

Adam Goren performed on the Chris Gethard show and the full set at The Fest 16 in 2017.

Goren and Greg Simpson collaborated on a cover of John Linnell's Montana on January 4, 2020, with Goren credited as Atom & His Package on Bandcamp.

Adam and Brian Sokel co-founded Dead Best in 2021 and released their first album on Don Giovanni Records.
