Adam Carson Career

Career

AFI released several vinyl EPs between 1993 and 1995 (Behind the Times; Eddie Picnic's All Wet; Not West Bay; AFI/Heckle; Fly in the Ointment) on acetate.

Answer That and Stay Fashionable was their first full-length album released on Wingnut Records on August 11, 1995, and Tim Armstrong produced it. AFI signed Nitro Records, Dexter Holland of The Offspring's label, and soon after, they released Very Proud of Ya, their second album. Carson is the one who conceived the album name and wrote the lyrics for the song "Key Lime Pie," (a salute to one of his favorite foods) and wrote several lines to "Rizzo in the Box." "The truth is that there is no such thing as a curse."

Kresge decided to leave the company after a series of tours in support of the album Very Proud of Ya. Hunter Burgan took his place for the remaining dates of the Very Proud of Ya tour. Burgan went on to assist AFI with Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (1997) and was able to become the full-time bassist.

Stopholese left the band and was replaced by Jade Puget, a former member of Influence 13 and vocalist Havok's close friend, who was on the A Fire Inside EP (1998). Black Sails appeared in the Sunset (1999), a musical turning point for AFI fans, who were introduced to a more mellow sound, blending the band's original hardcore roots with dark romantic influences.

The All Hallows EP (October 5, 1999) delves into the horror punk genre, with illustrations and lyrics containing Halloween themes. The EP produced the single "Totalimmortal," a track later covered by The Offspring on the Me, Myself, and Irene album.
