Abigail Savage Life

Abigail Savage (born June 26, 1984) is an American actress best known for playing inmate Gina Murphy on Orange Is the New Black.

Early life and education

Abigail Savage was born in New York City to Tereze Glück (October 20, 1945 – December 16, 2018), Citibank's vice president for her entire career (over 30 years), as well as a fiction writer. In 2015, Glück purchased a house in Cherry Grove, a hamlet on Fire Island, where Savage will stay during her breaks. Louise Glück, Nobel Laureate poet, is Glück's sister. Beatrice Glück (December 9, 1909 – May 11, 2011), a grandmother who was majoring in French, went to Wellesley College in Massachusetts at a time when it was uncommon for women to attend college, and she majored in French.

Her father is an audiophile and got her interest in sound technology. She would return to his apartment when she was twelve years old, and he'd show off his equipment and classical music, including the turntable for vinyl records. He was always upgrading his equipment.

In 1998, Savage graduated from Williams College, a liberal arts college in Massachusetts.

Personal life

The savage is Jewish. Savage is married to Caitlin McElroy, with whom she has a child. They eloped and married in a tuxedo store in Bennington, Vermont, before same-sex marriages became legal in their home state of New York in 2011. The shop's owner was the presiding justice of the peace.

She is the niece of Nobel Laureate poet Louise Glück.

Abigail Savage Career

Career

When Savage graduated from Williams College, the drama department's chief advised, "Be patient." It's the same advice Savage gave to many young women in the acting industry. Dido, Queen of Carthage, (2001) and a mathematics savant in The Connelly Theatre (2000), were among the many New York City theater performances.

Savage is both a sound designer and sound editor. She became interested in sound editing to help her with acting jobs and fell in love with the career. After college, her roommate complained of having too many internships, one for a post production sound studio, she stayed in the summer. She was preparing for the senior production at college and took the role. She claims that her sound designer work compliments her performance because it emphasizes consistency in takes and treating the props in the same way each time. Dig It Audio, a "boutique audio mixing and post production house in New York City for film, gaming, and television," is one of the company's leading companies for women in film, gaming, and television.

"Savage's unique Hollywood resume also includes a long list of sound editing awards, including] the 2010 financial film Inside Job (for which she received a Motion Picture Sound Editors Award)," according to The Hollywood Reporter. She has seventy-five sound credits as of July 2015. (2005), Man Push Cart (2005), Half Nelson (2006), Joshua Hart (2010), Joshua (2005), Where God Left His Shoes (2006), Joshua (2005), Goodbye (2008), The Unknown (2012), At Any Price (2010), First Monday in May 2016, Thank You for Playing (2015).

In 2013, Savage appeared in Jenji Kohan's Netflix series Orange Is the New Black as "kitchen-bound" prisoner Gina Murphy at a minimum-security women's jail. She said of her role that she had worked for years "to get somewhere, somewhere," before Orange fell into her lap; but the producers discovered the Gina role for her. The series is based on Piper Kerman's book Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison (2010) about her time in FCI Danbury, a minimum-security federal prison. In the fifth season, the show had a prison riot and was ended by a correctional emergency response team (CERT) who "dragged prisoners out and loaded them into buses." Her character was rescued with a handful of other prisoners. Her character was moved from Litchfield, Ohio, to FDC Cleveland, Ohio, with a number of other prisoners. The cast received the Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2017; they had previously received the award for season's two and three. In 2018, the cast was nominated for the SAG Award for Outstanding Contribution By An Ensemble In A Comedy Series.
