Aashiq Abu (born 12 April 1978) is an Indian film director, producer, actor, and distributor who works in Malayalam cinema. Aashiq Abu started as an ad film maker.

He made his directional debut with Daddy Cool (2009).

He is best known for his films Salt N' Pepper (2011), 22 Female Kottayam (2012), Mayaanadhi (2017), and Virus (2019).

Abu is best known for his relationship with screenwriters Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair. Abu Dhabi is a film company that produces and exports under the name OPM and OPM Dream Mill Cinemas.

He is the producer of Papaya Media Designs Pvt Ltd and Dream Mill Cinemas and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Mahesh Pothan's debut Mahesh Pothan's directorial debut Mahesh Pothan's debut Mahesh Prathikaaram (2016), which received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam, was produced by OPM.

Personal life

Aashiq Abu is a female historian who studied in Edappally, Kerala, and C. M. Abu Dhabi. Jameela Abu is the author of a book about Aashiq Abu Ibrahim. Aashiq Abu completed his schooling from SRV High School, Kochi. He was elected to the Students' Union as a pre-degree student at Maharajas College and served as a union member for four years. Rima Kallingal married actress Rima Kallingal on 1 November 3, 2013 in a simple function held in the Kakkanad Registration office, Kochi.

Aashiq Abu is a member of Anbodu Kochi, a Facebook-based group that works with the local government, and is responsible for gathering and distributing relief supplies in the aftermath of natural disasters. Aashiq Abu's Kochi Music Foundation, a member of the Kochi Music Foundation, has announced that the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) to assist flood victims. The funds were delayed in Chief Minister's office, sparking a controversy.

Film career

Abu Dhabi made his directorial debut with Daddy Cool in 2009, starring Mammootty after being an assistant director to Malayalam film director Kamal for almost five years. Salt N' Pepper was his second directorial effort. Prakash Raj, an actor-director, purchased Salt N' Pepper's Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi remake rights. He supervised 22 Female Kottayam in 2012, which was followed by Da Thadiya, Gangster, and Rani Padmini. Aashiq Abu also produced Lost in Mathrubhumi, a short film by Aashiq Abu. Mayaanadhi's release in 2017 was Mayaanadhi. Virus, the director of his latest film, was released on June 7th, 2019. The film is based on the true events of the Nipah virus epidemic in Kerala in 2018.
