Édgar Sosa (born January 15, 1988) is a Dominican-American professional basketball player for Hapoel Gilboa Galil of the Israeli Premier League.

High school and college career

Sosa attended Rice High School in New York City, where he received all-American recognition.

The young team struggled early in the 2006–07 season as a freshman at Louisville with Derrick Caracter, Earl Clark, and Jerry Smith. The team advanced to win 8 out of its last ten games, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Sosa scored 31 points against Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, shooting 15 for 17 from the line and 7 for 9 from the field. He also shot 15 for 15 on free throws to open the game, but he missed his final two as Texas A&M won the tournament.

Sosa played 140 games and averaged 9.7 points per game in his four-year tenure with Louisville.

Professional career

Sosa signed a one-year contract with Italian Serie A team Angelico Biella on July 23, 2010. In June 2011, he parted ways with Biella.

Sosa signed a one-year contract with Sutor Basket Montegranaro on July 3, 2011. However, after breaking his leg while representing the Dominican Republic in the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship in September, he was barred for six months. Sosa was then transferred to Montegranaro by Ben Uzoh, who was later suspended.

Sosa joined Reales de La Vega, a Dominican company, in June 2012.

Sosa joined Blancos de Rueda Valladolid on a one-month contract in January 2013. He later played in Puerto Rico for Cangrejeros de Santurce and in his home country for Leones de Santo Domingo.

Sosa signed with ratiopharm Ulm of the German Basketball Bundesliga on September 30, 2013-2014.

Sosa joined Italian team Dinamo Sassari for the 2014-2015 season on July 7, 2014.

Sosa joined the Atlanta Hawks on September 25, 2015. Since appearing in just one preseason game, he was waived by the Hawks on October 10, 2015. He joined Iran's Petrochimi Bandar Imam later this month. Sosa signed with Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem for the remainder of the season on April 16, 2016, a day after winning the Iranian Super League championship with Petrochimi.

Sosa signed with Italian side Juvecaserta Basket for the 2016–17 season on August 11, 2016. After scoring 19.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in Serie A, he left Juvecaserta on March 15, 2017. He signed with Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League three days later.

Sosa signed with the New Zealand Breakers on July 26, 2017, which marks the 2017-18 NBL season. He signed with Reyer Venezia Mestre of Lega Basket Serie A on March 14, 2018.

Sosa signed with BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of the French LNB Pro A on June 8, 2018. In 18 games played during the 2018–19 season, he averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Sosa returned to Israel for a second stint, signing with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in the 2019-20 season. Sosa won 98-93 over his former team Hapoel Jerusalem on January 12, 2020, scoring 6-of-10 from three-point range, as well as four rebounds and four assists. He was subsequently named Israeli League Round 15 MVP.

He signed with Boulazac Basket Dordogne of LNB Pro A on July 26, 2020.

He signed with Rasta Vechta of the Basketball Bundesliga on February 16, 2021. Sosa averaged 16.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game.

He signed with Zamalek of the Egyptian Basketball Super League on September 2, 2021. On May 28, he was named to the All-BAL First Team of the 2022 season, assisting Zamalek in their third position with a team leading 18.5 points per game.

Sosa joined Al-Naft SC of the Iraqi Basketball League on September 18, 2022.

National team career

In 2011, Sosa made his Dominican national team debut. He represented the Dominican Republic at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain in 2014.
