Based on James Franco's short story collection of the same name, the film follows teens in affluent Palo Alto who do not have any parental guidance and engage in casual sex and drugs.

The film is written and directed by Gia Coppola and the film is her directorial debut. James Franco is from Palo Alto and wrote the stories based on his own high school experiences.
