Personal life
Dara Singh, the wrestler-turned-actor, was Vindu's father. Farha Naaz, a comedian with whom he had a son born in year 2001, was married to actress Farha Naaz. In year 2002, the couple divorced. Dina Umarova, a television model who has a daughter who was born in year 2009, was married to Vindu in 2006.
He was jailed in May 2013 for having links to bookies and his involvement in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal.
Career
In 1994 Hindi film Karan, Vindu made his acting debut. He appeared in Rab Dian Rakhan, a 1996 Punjabi film directed by his father. Since then, he has appeared in several films, mainly in supporting roles.
He has also appeared in television serials, including Hanuman's role in the TV series Jai Veer Hanuman, much as his father did in Ramayan. In addition to his appearance in TV serials on Star Plus, including Zaal in Sshhhh...Koi Hai (2003) and Char Sau Chalis in Karma (2004), he has appeared as a supervillain. Vindu has also appeared in the film Black on 9X, where he portrays Rajiv, a medium who can establish connections with spirits. Vindu Dara Singh has appeared on television shows such as Master Chef 2, Zor ka Jhatka, Comedy Circus, All Most Famous, and Maa Exchange. Singh was also paired in a Pepsi commercial with Ranbir Kapoor.
He was the winner of the third season of Bigg Boss in 2009 and he also became the most popular and bold contestant to win the Chevrolet Cruze, a feat that had never been attempted before, winning both the cash prize and the car as well as defeating Pravesh Rana and Poonam Dhillon. His housemates gave him the name Bade dil wala ('man with a golden heart.'
